“The industrial policy prepared for all industrial sectors of the country, including the automobile industry, should not change with the government changes.

 

For that, a sustainable national industrial policy that is suitable for the new world should be prepared with the contribution of the respective fields informing all the political parties of the country. Its preliminary measures have already been started and we will soon present it to the public.” Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Minister of Plantations and Industries, stated this while attending the special meeting of automobile manufacturers held at the Ministry of Industries this morning (September 27).

 

The challenges faced by the automobile assembling industrialists, the challenges in the import of necessary raw materials, the production of accessories, and the sale of cars and accessories in Sri Lanka at the commercial level were widely discussed.

 

Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Additional Secretaries,  Chairmen of Institutions, officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, Department of Motor Transport Commissioner, Department of Customs, and many other ministries and institutions also participated. The problems and challenges that emerged from the automobile industry were able to be positively discussed at that time.

 

It was further discussed regarding the increase in tax concessions for products that increase the percentage of value addition by using domestically produced automobile components, production of electric vehicles, and how automobiles or automobile components assembled or manufactured in the country are added to the export economic flow.

A large number of dignitaries from various automobile and automobile accessories manufacturing companies, institutions, as well as various automobile associations, participated in this event.
